| The system consists of a
two axis
traverse (as shown) above, with a PC controller. The required instrument is
fitted to the carriage yaw module, which traverses both up and down the
actuator (via the radial drive) and rotates (via the yaw drive). If further
axes are required, then additional actuators are integrated into the system.

Radial Axis Specification
The radial axis consists of a carriage driven by a leadscrew and
supported by a secondary splined shaft. A stepper motor directly drives the
leadscrew with optical encoder position feedback.

Yaw Axis Specification
The yaw axis module on the carriage is rotated by the splined shaft, via
a unique metal band drive system, which eliminates backlash. The shaft is
driven by a stepper motor and harmonic drive with optical encoder position
feedback.
