Brake Caliper
Force/Displacement Measurement Rig
Design and
manufacture of a force/displacement measurement test rig for a range of
automotive brake calipers. The loadcell and displacement transducer signals
were amplified prior to data collection by an industrial PC. Data was
displayed on a pan/tilt TFT screen. The system was controlled by a purpose
designed Logic Control PCB driving a geared motor. The whole test rig was
mounted as 19" racking on a modular aluminium frame.

Pressure Test Rig
Design and manufacture of pressure test equipment for a
variety of brake caliper bodies. Shop air at 5.5 bar and 170 bar
(via a 30:1 rig intensifier) was used for leak tests, low pressure tests and high
pressure tests. Each test type was individually selected and automatically
controlled using a PLC. Data was output from various flow-meters and
pressure transducers and compared to acceptable values in the PLC. All pressure testing
was undertaken in a containment
box, in case of component failure, with the appropriate safety interlocks.

Aircraft Battery Charger Tester
Design and manufacture of an Aircraft Battery Charger
Tester, incorporating a means of varying 115V, 400Hz, 3 phase supply between
zero and 140V output. This was based around a 19" rack system and consisted
of a control/status monitoring chassis and a battery transformer chassis,
each being usable as a separate unit. Aircraft power conditions were
simulated and selected from the front panel, and power in each phase is
displayed on a programmable digital display.
